Cool Places in America~ Monowi, NE

Its your favorite child travel adviser, Tyler,  once again bringing you the best in last minute vacations. Your road trip planner for the weekend getaway to the coolest and strangest places in America. How do I know about them all? My parents are contract workers in the software industry and keep moving the family every 6 months....

For a little while I was the fourth person in a four person town. We got to stay a block away from Elsie Eiler. She was the mayor. Also she was the tavern keep, the librarian, and the only official resident in Monowi. Our arrival was a huge population boom. When we left she erased the 'Population 4' sign and rewrote it 'Population 1'.

I asked her what the property tax was and she answered, "What ever it cost to put a new roof on next summer." She had this little one room library which was filled with her deceased husbands books. He had collected 5,000 volumes. I would be lying if I had said I read them all, but I tried.

There were four stop lights and three houses. One in which we had stayed in for free in return for fixing it up a little so others could stay in it. Elsie said she thought it would be nice to let it out so she could occasionally afford to take a trip to Omaha. It was like Elsie thought the trip would be as grand as going to Paris.

Elsie was great, but do not ask her about Phạm Đình Nguyên or his deli in PhinDeli, Wyoming. He is the only inhabitant of that town. She likes to keep her rivalries quiet.

Cool Places in America~ Mount Shasta

Its your favorite child travel adviser, Tyler,  once again bringing you the best in last minute vacations. Your road trip planner for the weekend getaway to the coolest and strangest places in America. How do I know about them all? My parents are contract workers in the software industry and keep moving the family every 6 months....

Yep, we ended up in California many times. Remember my parents are contract software engineers... So that time they moved us under the shadow of Mount Shasta. Boy those people were strange. All starry eyed like those actors in the 70's playing Jesus. They creep me out

Now James Hilton based his novel Lost Horizon on the mysterious Lemurians hidden within Mount Shasta. In the novel he replaced Mount Shasta with the Himalayan Mountains though. Many people believe he was trying to keep their society safe by changing the location of Shangri-La (Shang Mountain Pass). Shangri-La was a fictional realm similar to the Buddhist Shambhala, the most sacred of Beyuls (Hidden valleys in mountains to escape from the world). I do not know how these people could escape the world around hear when they keep saying 'look at me, I am so divine'? I am amazed that not many of these star gazer have fallen off the mountain.

It is also rumored to be an alien landing pad. Some believe that the Lemruians are aliens that are hiding in the mountain. This reminds me of one of my favorite movies, Escape to Witch Mountain. In the movie the children do not remember their parents, only a shipwreck and a mysterious uncle. They befriend an old man in a RV and are chased by some rich guy, who wants to use their powers to make him even richer, to this mountain where they find others like them who are survivors of a UFO crash. I never seen any little green men up there. I did see one man trying to escape the world who forgot to bring a sandwich, so I fed him.

No who are the Lemurians. Geologist once tried to explain how there are lemurs in Madagascar and India by saying their was a lost continent between the two. Then these strange occult people made up fantastic stories of people who had four arms and a third eye in their foreheads. Hitler was searching for them in Tibet. He was one strange little dude... Many others have been searching for them in Mount Shasta.

Well I did not like the Mountain, but I still drink the soda. It has real sugar and I think that is cool!

Cool Places in America~ Where Ducks Walk On Carp?

Its your favorite child travel adviser, Tyler,  once again bringing you the best in last minute vacations. Your road trip planner for the weekend getaway to the coolest and strangest places in America. How do I know about them all? My parents are contract workers in the software industry and keep moving the family every 6 months....

This was an interesting stop we had traveling in Pennsylvania. Near this spillway in Linesville is a horde of carp who are fed bread all day. Their school is so thick it has been rumored that ducks walk over them to steal the bread. This place was creepy, but amazing. I could only imagine if they were barracudas down there. If I had a little brother, I might of been tempted to see what happens if he fell in. Good thing I do not...

We threw in this Salvador Dali loaf of bread in. It took five of us to walk it to the water. All standing behind each other. We got it from Seaside Heights, NJ. That is another strange place I will never mention in this blog. When we threw it in the fish were jumping out of the water on top of the group and started squirming their way to get their lion share of it. It is amazing how when there is a huge surplus of food to see all of these fish still fight for it.

It is said the only thing in Pennsylvania that gets more visitors is the Liberty Bell. There was so many fish I wondered if this is how Jesus walked on water?

Cool Places in America~ The House on the Rock

Its your favorite child travel adviser, Tyler,  once again bringing you the best in last minute vacations. Your road trip planner for the weekend getaway to the coolest and strangest places in America. How do I know about them all? My parents are contract workers in the software industry and keep moving the family every 6 months....

Yep, my parents had moved me to another town again. Now I am in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. It was going to be really a cheesy move...but I found this awesome house. I got to meet the caretaker and now I go and play in this place ever day after school. It is the House on the Rock.

In 1959 Alex Jordan Jr. built the place. Throughout the years he kept adding buildings to the property. Each house has very strange and marvelous stuff. In the houses there is an Octopus Garden, the largest indoor carousel, a room with a dogfight on the ceiling, a room full of armor, a hallway that extends over a cliff, a room full of pipe organs, and so on and so... It is amazing and I am so glad I get to hang out in there. I help out fixing things with my friends and collecting tickets.

They say Jordan had a gift for the blarney. Many things in the house are exaggerated. Some are not original and others are. It was said Jordan would pay more for a good copy than an original just to keep people guessing.  I had a ball trying to guess which things were real and what were not. This house is the house the father from Big Fish dreamed of!

Here are some of the pictures of the boring stuff...

Now for the really Cool...

Now go check out the rest of their gallery. It will definitely make you smile!
